A state-of-the-art £6 million 3D cinema will officially open on Friday 6th May 2011 in Newquay.

The Lighthouse Cinema owned by WTW Cinemas has been long awaited in the town (it has been 16 years since Newquay last had a cinema), situated just off Central Square it is the first purpose-built all-digital projection cinema in the South West.

The complex itself has four-screens, two of which are 3D. The cinema is on two floors and will be able to seat up to 650 people.

The first films that will be shown will include Thor, Something Borrowed, Water for Elephants, Fast and Furious 5, Rio, Hop, The King’s Speech and Arthur. 

Newquay Mayor Andy Hannan and Town Centre Manager Guy Thomas will be helping to cut the ribbon at 5pm.

AN open day is being held at the Cinema on Thursday 5th May 2011 between 10am and 6pm to enable people to tour the building prior to the official launch.
